Mission and helping other is of the upmost importance at First Baptist Church. Faith is not only something we feel – but it is something we do!
Our 2007 Vision Statement expresses this sense of compassion and caring;
With compassion we reach out to our neighbors both near and far, And serve where the world’s deep hunger and our faithful response meet.
Compassion has been described as a “quivering of one’s heart” but also as a way to act.Craig Doolittle shares how compassion changed who he was; “I felt your compassion, directed at others, but also at me and my family.That can’t help but change you, make your heart stronger.And then one day, my own heart quivered, and I knew that I needed to act; it was my turn to do something.So, we went to Louisiana and I will be forever changed by that”
Gretchen Webster reflects that “each week we come together in worship, aware that there is a world full of hurts and huge hurdles to overcome, and healing that’s longed for and while we can’t meet every need - together we can find the place to begin.That place is at the intersection of the Cross, the symbol of our Christian faith.” At First Baptist Church we reach out by giving of our resources, supporting many local service organizations as well as missionaries around the world.But we also love to roll up our sleeves and get involved ourselves. We support: The Neighborhood Supper Loaves and Fishes Habitat for Humanity Lowell Transitional Center Sylvia’s Haven The Way Up Acton Household Goods Littleton Council of Churches Andover Newton Theological School Grotonwood and Oceanwood La Paz, Mexico Partnership Murrow Indian Children’s Home Romanian Children’s Camp Special Needs Ministries American Baptist United Mission which support missionaries and mission work all around the world and here in Massachusetts!
