Journeying to God’s Sacred Beat
First Baptist Church of Littleton has been known as "the Singing Church" for many years. Why? Because we love to sing! Throughout the years we have sung traditional hymns, children's songs, camp songs, folk songs, gospel and praise songs. In 2007 we adopted an additional new slogan; "Journeying to God's Sacred Beat".
Not only do we embrace all types of music at First Baptist Church, but we feel that this phrase fully encompasses our journey together as a community of faith; it identifies whom we follow and whom we listen to. It also keeps us moving at a healthy, moderate pace. A sacred pace. We don’t try to do it all – we do what God calls us to do in a way that brings passion - not exhaustion. We have to slow down to listen carefully for God’s voice.
John Court is a member of our Mission Board and is active in our Adult Sunday School class. John is married and the father of three children and he shared this about our faith journey together in ministry and God’s sacred beat;
“As time passes, I have come to realize that synchronous to the individual journey, there is another faith journey happening that people of faith take together. This journey is interesting and exciting because it involves many people within whom God is working in their lives. Instead of a solo, there is a quartet, a band, or even an orchestra in which God is conducting a masterpiece.”
“Listening to God’s sacred beat”
“Harmony and balance are two hallmarks of a good piece of music. Likewise, in order for our church to be in harmony with the vision that God has for us, we all need to try to stay “in tune” with God AND with others. The individuals in the orchestra need to focus on the conductor – God, so that they do not miss a beat. At the same time, the players need to keep in tune with the other members of the orchestra as they finish the piece. In harmony with God’s sacred beat means not racing ahead and having a hectic frenzied life, rather it is taking time to savor the beauty and majesty of the creator. When we do this, we honor God and we help others along the way”
We listen for God’s sacred beat in all of our ministries. |
